Years of rigging
Fill up this chamber
Ropes and pulleys and anchors
Cables and swivels and hooks
Turnbuckles and swage sleeves and fiddle blocks
All connected to a central cardioid apparatus
That allow each operator
Large and small, young and old, begrudged and limerenced
To pull and twist and manipulate
The strings of my heart.

Oh, I really liked this...it feels just that way sometimes...the heart lurches, the heart leaps, jumps...this was fabulous!
ReplyDeleteAn excellent use of metaphor--our internal rigging--always subject to storm and manipulation, but keeping our sails set. 'Years of rigging, ' indeed. Great 55, great poem.
ReplyDeleteI like to thing of a heart being 'rigged' with rope memories...
ReplyDeleteBut even better, I like to THINK of it! lol
ReplyDeleteVery well done. I love the comparisons.

ReplyDeleteI was reading this and enjoying your expertise with sailing (very impressive)....in other words, enjoying the ride, when Zow! you came in with that final line. This 55 really works for me on so many levels; I won't soon forget this one.
